Thrill The World New York City is a New York team that is part of the worldwide attempt to set the new world record for the largest simultaneous dance ever. To make this happen we will teach anyone (regardless of age, ethnicity, silliness etc) how to do the dance.
The New York City chapter also known as TTWNYC is a team of fun-loving people from all walks of life. TTWNYC’s mission strives to encourage service-giving through the art of music and dance. All members of TTWNYC are people who donate their own time, effort, and money to charitable causes. We look forward to using these universal commonalities to encourage individuals of all ages to engage in creative service projects.
Since 2009, we have successfully raised awareness and support for various charitable organizations such as VH1 Save The Music, UNICEF, Boomer Esiason Foundation, Eve Ensler’s V-Day Campaign/One Billion Rising, to name a few. We also annually collect for our favorite charity The Pajama Program where we collect new pajamas and new children’s books for kids in need.
We have performed all over New York City being featured in movies, parades (We led the 7th Annual Dance Parade), and TV shows (NBC’s “Today Show”, Univision’s “Despierta America”, WHTV’s “What’s Happening NYC?”), online websites and magazines (Zombie magazine by Beckett Entertainment, Examiner, Time Out New York, Crowd Funding Guide, Humans of New York, Simple Magazine) and along the way we have contributed to various schools and community centers.
And now every year, we have participants who join us all over the world to participate in our New York City event. Over 500 people registered in 2009 and the list just keeps on getting bigger which means we need a bigger venue and better equipment, all of which costs money. So we really need your support to help us reach our goals!
2015 is the seventh year that New York will be participating in the global worldwide event which is called Thrill The World, however we are an active Michael Jackson tribute dance group and dance all year long in addition to the annual Thrill day event.
Thousands of people from across the entire world dance to the zombie “Thriller” dance at the same time.
The team was started in April of 2009 by Amada Anderson. Why? Because it’s cool and because she wanted to learn thriller and thought everyone else did too and then on October 24th at 8:30pm in 2009 and represented with 97 zombie dancers in Astoria Park, Queens. Thrill The World 2009 had 278 registered events from 32 countries combining worldwide a total of 22,923 zombies. We broke The Record Holders Republic Record for Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance as well as rose over $85,000 USD for 80 different charities. Our event collectively was able to raise $500 for a charity called Vh1 Save The Music! The VH1 Save The Music foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in American Public Schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child’s complete education.
